I’m back with a ‘standard’ missive before Shelf-Esteem returns next, next week (thank you to all the people who have reached out and supported this newsletter, and hello to all the new people too!)
It may be tenuous, but there’s a thread to all these books, a good dollop of desire and hunger (in every sense of the word) wrapped up in secrecy, and a sprinkling of shame mixed in too. I hope you find something to satiate yourself (I’ll stop with all the extended metaphors now.)
Earlier
Famished by Anna Vaught
I picked up Anna Vaught’s Famished as a sort of palate cleanser before embarking on something longer (I find short story collections are a nice way to transition between books when I’m feeling overwhelmed by my shelves). Famished certainly has an interesting premise, a kind of gastronomic horror, but while some stories courses were wonderfully dark, others felt a little repetitive.
Now
Want: Sexual Fantasies by Anonymous collected by Gillian Anderson
I’m such a big fan of Gillian Anderson, so when I first read about this book I was sold instantly. This is one you can easily read at your leisure (and concurrently with something else) as the collection of fantasies are grouped chapters with similar themes or ‘wants’. Highly recommend.
Later
Piglet by Lottie Hazell
Aside from wanting to read Butter like everyone else in the world, Piglet sounds like a truly delicious (sorry!) book. I’ve had a couple of reviews from friends who raved about it, and then I saw
post about it on TikTok and knew it was one to bookmark.Enjoy!
(I absolutely lied about the extended metaphors; this is where they end!)

The cover of piglet makes me crave donuts 😂
